Theodora was expecting to go to Wilfred’s house, but he stopped the taxi and got out at her favourite place, the library.
She had to run to catch up to him, he gained the steps and headed in with such purpose.
“Well this is kind of my place, I thought we were going to yours” she said, having beat him to the rug, as Clifford Moore, Wilfred’s co-worker followed them in.
“It’s one of my favourite places too, we have that in common, so I wanted to bring you here to ask you” he took her hands, as Helen Moore joined them on the rug.
“The Zing of Gear is an interesting novel title, what will that one be about?” asked Theodora, as someone’s toddler cried on the rug next to them.
“Sorry, I’m not talking about writing, I’m talking about real life” he corrected, as the noisy toddler and everyone else finally left them alone, “I brought you here to ask you something”
“Ask me something? she repeated excitedly, the rain dripping off her elbow.
He took a deep breath and dropped to his knee, dripping rain everywhere and popped open a black box with a diamond ring in it. “Will you marry me?” he asked.
“Oh!” she squealed into her hands.
“Will you be my co-founder in my legacy?” he asked again, “I’ll help you with your chess, take you to Egypt, or wherever you want, and you can go to University, build the house with me and have a life” he kept on, as she danced on the spot.
“Yes! Wilfred yes!” she exasperated.
He put the ring on her finger and watched it and her eyes light up, brighter than the chandelier.
“Will you still write your book about me?” she checked.
“Of course, anything you want” he promised.
“Yahh!” she screamed and flailed at him.
He hoped that was for him to catch her.
It was.
For the first time, he held her, in his soggy suit.
