This house is next to the military base. It starts out as a shack with uneven ground in the middle. I improved it for the family of sims living in it with inspiration from images of Palm Springs, old Western towns, desert dwellings and Vegas.
The front half has an old Western, ghost-town feel. The hedging is recoloured and ends up looking like old army equipment, so the arch and letterbox got recoloured to look like brass and old-fashioned army type metal recycled.
Just like old houses have extensions built in a different material, this one has one out the back, or maybe the extension is the front! The back has a desert dwelling, industrial, possibly an old army prison look or something. The crumbly wall is from the World Adventures collection. The extra hedging in the front garden frames some stairs going down into a basement of more than one floor. The house ends up having about six storeys.
Its a pretty good view of the fancy landscape from that third upper floor, which is why it has all windows floor to ceiling. Inspired by the mountain-top martial arts training dummy in Shang Simla China. There’s a training dummy, and a chessboard in there. Its like a spiritual, master martial arts workout vantage … spot.
The sims always run to carpools and to drive their cars on the highway, way up the back of the house, rather than on the dirt road at the side or front. Sometimes it arrives at the side road in front of the military base, but never when you want it to. You can see the other houses on this side of town, further up the road, which are converted old, dust-town commercial buildings, including a theatre and a gas station. The multi-building lot is a working motel.
The colourings of the house blend in alright with the surrounds and the military base. I like to half-imagine it is a supplied house from the base. Although, the family have taken it over and built improvements into it.
Tucked away in the nook which the original shack had, without the foundation, are a couple of basketball games from the Store, recoloured to look built-in. The letterbox is from Roaring Heights, recoloured, and there’s a fixer upper car in the backyard for working on and getting up to no good. The other cars are in the basement.
